Floyd Mayweather Vs Logan Paul set for February 2021

Floyd Mayweather has confirmed that he will fight YouTube personality turned Rapper/ Boxer, Logan Paul on February 20th, 2020 in an Exhibition Match. Logan’s brother Jake Paul is coming off his knockout victory heard round the world against former 3-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion, Nate Robinson. Logan has a professional Boxing record of 0–1 but does boast an impressive 22 million YouTube subscribers while Floyd sits at 49–0 with 26 knockouts.

Mayweather has not been in the ring since 2017 when he came out of retirement to defeat MMA superstar, Conor McGregor. Floyd is 18 years the senior of Logan Paul. Mayweather is 43 while Paul is 25 years of age.

Floyd Mayweather Vs Logan Paul Exhibition Boxing Match set for February 20th, 2021

We all know that Floyd only comes out of retirement for fights he knows he can win, and fights that he believes are worth the paycheck. His last two professional boxing matchups against Manny Pacquiao, and Conor McGregor were wildly underwhelming from a non-boxing fan perspective like my own. Both of those fights felt like they were a big scam. Everyone that pays for the Pay Per View is expecting a to be entertained. Floyd’s ‘Defensive’ style of boxing makes fans who purchased the PPV feel cheated out of their money, while Floyd and whomever he is fighting walk away with millions… For what?

The Pacquiao fight was less of a scam compared to the McGregor fight. You can’t convince me that the Mayweather Vs McGregor fight wasn’t a gimmick. It was arguably the best Boxer of all time against one of the best MMA fighters of all time competing in a Boxing match. Obviously, McGregor agreed to step into Floyd’s world, but the fight itself seemed to be a huge money grab.

A Mayweather fight against Logan Paul feels more like a complete gimmick than it does an actual fight. The amount of money that gamblers are going to place on Floyd Mayweather is going to be astronomical. If Floyd loses, or the fight ends in a draw… Vegas will walk away with an absolute gold mine.

The money aspect is one thing as we all know that both fighters will receive a good chunk of change. But, you have to wonder how experienced, credentialed Boxers feel about this fight. They see an amateur in Logan Paul whose brother Jake just knocked out a non-boxer in Nate Robinson… Logan Paul has had one professional fight in his career where he lost to fellow YouTuber, KSI. All of a sudden, he gets to fight Floyd Mayweather? Seems backwards if you ask me, and that is why I think this is more of a money grab than anything else.

There are experienced Boxers who have trained their entire adult lives to face off against the best in their sport, and that would be Floyd Mayweather. He came out of retirement for Manny Pacquiao, Conor McGregor and now Logan Paul… If I were a ‘Boxing Purist’ I would be outraged. I think a fight like this makes a complete mockery of boxing.

Don’t get me wrong, I am going to watch this fight, but like both Mayweather’s previous bouts, you can already predict the outcome. Floyd will win in a decision and both fighters will walk away with their health and a fat paycheck. Floyd will dance around the ring for however many rounds dodging Logan Paul’s punches and get a few shots in of his own. That will be it. I don’t see Floyd knocking Paul out which would be worth the price of admission, nor do I see it playing out the other way with Paul taking out Floyd. However, if Snoop Dogg is commentating the fight then it will be must see TV…

Of course, if Logan Paul does somehow defeat Floyd in February of 2021, I will start to take him seriously. For now, he just an amateur who is fighting for a quick paycheck. Floyd does this… his name has been at the peak of the Boxing world for 15+ years and has never lost. I don’t think his first loss will come at the hands of a YouTuber disguised as a Boxer.

Bottom line is that this fight will turn out to be horrible. It is going to be so over-hyped like Floyd’s previous fights coming out of retirement. I am already anticipating being royally underwhelmed after watching this.

However, for Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul this is a Win-Win situation. It will be interesting to see if this fight comes to fruition in February as well as the advertising and promos leading up to the first bell.

For now, it is officially a go… DING DING.
